This might seem like a pretty stupid question for those veterans out there, but anyhow;
How do I identify what kind of jeep I have ? In the docs it is only written Ford/Jeep - 1974, but I'd like to know what kind of model it is.
Tips appreciated... :oops:

u have a cj-5 type , is 74 right ? is 4 or 6 cc ?

Gringo, if your CJ is a Ford 74, probably it has a BF-161 6 cylinder engine, 3 speed transmission. The model is the CJ-5. What else do you need to know?

fala & fala... Falo Portugues, mas escrevo como um crianca. O gramatico Portugues e complicado, e aindo depois 7 anos no Brasil estou lutando com isso. Experiencei que quase tudo mundo entende ingles escrito, mas dar resposta em Portugues de volta, que nao tenho problema de ler... :wink:

This is no original jeep anymore, it's a Santana 2,0 engine (carb) in it, and after I blew the original gearbox a had to install a 4-speed F-1000 tranny. I have no idea what kind of original engine it had, but the docs say under cap/pot/cil: 5PAS/90/, and the chassi is LA1BPR56925.
CJ-5 ? thanx. What does it stand for ?
Another question for the vets; do you know the origin of the name "jeep" ?

O termo Jeep vem da sigla dos primeiros jeeps (GPW), de General Purpose.. com o tempo passaram a ler as letras GP como Jeep.

I knew it wouldn't last long in a 4x4 forum, but I hadn't expected it that fast though. Not many Brazilians I've spoken with associate the Brazilian term "jipe" with; GPV - General Purpose Vehicle - GeePee (pron: jeepee)- Jeep. Good job !
