Hello Off Roaders,
just want to let interested drivers know, if you need information about the trail from Porto Velho to Manaus, I made this trip twice. One time in September 2006 and last time in May 2007! I also made a video from the trail, day and night!
http://guycom.gu.funpic.de/index.html/assets/images/db_images/db_L200-Action-61.jpg
One fact is, this trail is bad, and even worst then that!!
Without 4x4 impossible, winch is needed too, if possible 2-3 strong passengers could help as well. I made the trip one time on my own and one time with my wife!

 Our car was a Mitsubishi L200, year 1999 with 4x4 and winch (on the last trip winch gone bad as well as my 4x4 give up and last but not least the alternator did not charge the batterie no more :putz:!!
http://guycom.gu.funpic.de/index.html/assets/images/db_images/db_L200-Action1.jpg
:-D I enjoyed it, but trust me, it's not easy at all .

It was impressive and cool!

We are planning to drive the same trip at the end of may 2009. We have 3 cars Nissan Patrol trucks.

How many days it will take us to drive from Porto Velho to Manaus (BR-319 road)? And we will glad any tips or concederation you can share with us?

Thank you, Katerina

Hello Katerina,

in April this year organized a trip, and Transamazônica by BR319 ... in the stretch between Manaus and Porto Velho you should take no more than 4 days ... but the truth would be in February to April, is more radical. The doubts that have try to answer, but my English is basic, then see what I can do.
It has a story in my next address, is in English (translated by the site)

It's nice to see people from all over the world coming to Amazônia for a nice Off Road ride.
Our group (www.LameirosDoSul.com.br (http://www.LameirosDoSul.com.br) ), we are also working on all preparations for our trip in Feb/2009, when all the rain should be hapenning. As we are from the South of Brazil, it will be a long way to go too. Of course, can't be compared to yours. If you think that we could be helpfull in anyway, please don't hesitate in contacting us. Best Regards, Luis Klauck

I wrote already to Sergio at you tube. We a 4x4 group from Colombia intend to come via Venezuela to Brasil either in April or in June 2009, drive from Manaus to Porto Velho and continue to Peru thru Rio Branco. We would be gratefull to obtain information on which is the best tyime to come, how long the trip from Manaus to Porto Velho will take, if petrol is available inbetween.
Our cars are principally Toyota Land Cruisers FJ 80, equiped with Old Man Emu suspensions, 33" MT Tires, differetial lockers, High Lift's and so on.
Is June a dry period? Can it be that on that period all the road will be very dusty?
Thanks in advance for your help and tips

Hi Hans,
Nice to meet you. Sergio knows a lot about the north roads. From Manaus to Porto Velho you will be on the BR319 and a total of 891KM. Considering that between Dec-March we get our biggest volume of rain in that area you can consider that in April you would find more water than June. June is considered a dry season and you would have dust. Yes, you must carry extra petrol (about 50 liters) to be save. If you want to move fast and you like the dust, come in June and that part should take you about two days. If you like the challenge with chances to find some mud and take one more day, come in April. Your Jeeps' equipment sounds fine. Note...don't forget that it's almost for sure that you will have to sleep over night in the car or tend.
Any more questions, please send me e-mails at Luis@klauck.com.br - Have a good trip. Best Regards, LK

Hi Luis,
thank you for your valuable information. We are equiped with top roof tents so that overnight on the road is not a problem. What about security, are there any cautions to be taken?
Besat regards, HS

Hans,

The biggest challenges to be watched are the vaccines and the mosquitos.

Sorry to everybody, I could not get back to you all because of certain problems since I left Guyana. Well, the BR-319 is no Off Road fun no more ! I walk through within 12 hours hard drive, hardly any holes or big problems. I used my winch only one time to help somebody does not fall in the swamp . The only problem I found 1 time was a bridge what fall down and they put it in the water, hard to see or find under water :putz:. The rest is routine, sorry to tell you all so.

Ralph,

This year Brazil became the Army of the machine across the road, even with the rains it is very good. I was there in February, a real carpet. Now you Manaus - Humaitá in 12 hours? how this was possible?
Regards,

Sérjão

The 12 hours (in truth it was 17 hours, 12 hours is only a speech, sorry) are from about 130 km behind Manaus to Humaita, not all the way from Manaus to Porto Velho! When I said "hard drive" I meant average going with over 80 km speed, as I was alone in the car I had only to look for myself. But the fun actually gone, still is a nice drive to the landscape and so on, but no more Off Road fun!

Ok ..

Understood now. Really not as off road more, but it is now virtually impossible to pass. I have a friend coming next week, will be a great challenge.

See blog (http://sergioholanda.blogspot.com/)as I will be the roadmap of the project in 2010 ... much more challenging, small walk on roads that are not on the map.

Regards,

Sérjão

I already wrote to Sergio, but I want to inform that in April 2009 we drove with 2 Toyota Landcruisers from Colombia thru Venezuela to Brazil and all the way long down to Manaus. Passing the BR319 from Manaus to Humaita took us 3 days staying 1 night close to the rio Luna (fantastic to see there the pink dolphins) and 1 night at the side of an Embratel tower. We found a lot of mud after the second ferry (before rio Luna) where one car get stuck 2 times, but we could recover it without mayour problems. We found also a lot of white mud with heavy rain at the end of the way coming closer to Humaita but we could manage it without problems. The biggest challenge was to pass a wooden bridge about 160 km south of rio Luna which was almost fallen down. We spent almost 4 hours reinforcing it and crossing over with the cars was a big risk. If this bridge has not been repaired it could happen that passing is not possible.
